What is an estate car?

An estate car, also known as a station wagon or simply wagon in North America, is a type of car body style that has a longer roofline and extended cargo space at the rear of the vehicle. Estate cars are designed for families or individuals who require larger storage capacity for luggage, groceries, or bulky items. Estate cars usually have a rear hatch or tailgate that can be lifted to access the storage area, and the rear seats can be folded down to increase the storage space. Most estate cars have a longer wheelbase compared to a sedan or hatchback, providing more legroom and a smoother ride. Estate cars are popular in Europe and are often used as family cars, while in North America, SUVs and crossovers have largely replaced the traditional estate car.
